Subjective Experience and Identity in Diaries from Revolutionary France

Michaela Kalcher is a historian of the French Revolution and the long eighteenth century. Her doctoral thesis uses diaries written by ordinary people in Revolutionary France to explore how they understood the experience of living through revolutionary changes as personally meaningful, and how it transformed various dimensions of their identities. Her core research interests include subjective experience, selfhood, violence and trauma, and the history of emotions. 

Her research is funded through the Clarendon Fund in partnership with the Exeter College Usher Cunningham Scholarship in History, the Scatcherd European Scholarship, and the Saven European Scholarship.
